The New Era of Innovation: From Ideas to Systems

ABOUT INNOVATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (IMS)

The challenge of failing to generate innovation from existing organizations is not unique to Japanese companies but is a global issue. Consequently, since 2013, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has been developing an international standard for management systems designed to foster innovation within existing organizations. In 2019, the first international standard for innovation management, the “ISO 56000 series,” was published, specifically the guidance standard “ISO 56002: Innovation Management Systems.”

The purpose of the Innovation Management System (IMS) is to enhance the ability to realize new value in uncertain situations. The scope of innovation includes not only new products and services, but also processes, business models, and more.

ACTIVITY

Based on the international standards ISO 56001/56002, increase the success rate of “innovation management”

Since its establishment in 2013, Japan Innovation Network (JIN) has been engaged in promoting and disseminating “innovation management,” providing implementation support, conducting research, and offering advisory services. Since 2015, JIN has represented Japan’s domestic review body within the multinational committee developing the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Innovation Management System (IMS) standard, driving the consolidation of opinions on the proposed content and advancing international negotiations.

01|Innovation Management System Acceleration Program(IMSAP)

Based on SO56001/56002, we will build and mature an innovation management system tailored to your company’s needs.

At the IMSAP Studio, you will intensively learn the fundamental knowledge of the ISO 56000 series. Next, at IMSAP Camp I, you will conduct a current status analysis (IMS assessment) related to your company’s IMS.

02|IMP Capability Development Program

A program for aspiring next-generation professionals in the era of systematic innovation.

An Innovation Management Professional (IMP) is an expert who systematically drives the creation and utilization of innovation within an organization. As the “innovation helmsman” guiding the organization to success in a rapidly changing business environment, they play a crucial role.

03|SDGs Holistic Innovation Platform (SHIP)

We view the SDGs as a goal for innovation and aim to achieve them by leveraging the technology and expertise of Japanese companies.

SHIP is an open innovation platform launched in 2016 by JIN and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). (Operated solely by JIN since April 2023.)
